Sense-Lab supports organizations from different sectors to innovate, plan and develop to face the new challenges that arise, incorporating the different movements and models that are emerging. We work with organizational development, strategic planning, processes and culture of innovation, design and implementation of organizational structures through principles of self-management, evolution of organizational purpose and development of organizational impact strategies through the principles of regenerative organizations, which seek to minimize their negative externalities, while generating positive impacts for society and natural systems.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

The strategic planning of organizations, increasingly immersed in dynamic and complex environments, are not technical problems solved by linear/Cartesian processes. The way to face this challenge then is through dialogical processes, incorporating the perspective and experience of internal and external stakeholders, and adaptive, where each stage informs and transforms the later stage. 


In such processes it is important to have a careful reflection on the legitimacy and representativeness of the voices involved, and consequently the governance of the project. Sense-Lab has the practice of designing governance structures with the partner to order the execution and decision-making process in projects, defining the different groups to be involved in each step. 


The methodological approach practiced in our Strategic Planning goes through 4 dimensions: external context, which allows identifying the desired vision of change; the strategic orientation, where the objectives are defined, followed by the performance and financing and finally, the Structure and Governance, that is, the organizational capacity necessary for the planning to be implemented. 


This approach aligns and has several interfaces with the structures of a Theory of Change. Thus, in many cases, theOries of Change are used as a way to organize strategic planning.

Business Planning and Modeling

Sense-Lab has a long consolidated track record in supporting enterprises of different sizes and sectors in the modeling of its business, planning of its financial structure, management, market evaluation and strategy. In addition to numerous processes to support small enterprises and impact startups, participated in the elaboration of important knowledge for the field of impact business such as structuring, together with Move Social, Instituto de Cidadania Empresarial (ICE) and Fundação Grupo Boticário,  a tool called C Model, created  to unify the planning of the impact of the business,  through a theory of change, in line with its business model.


While C Model serves as the basis for an organization to think fully, another Sense-Lab work focused on Impact Business Innovation illuminates the different mechanisms by which the intentional generation of positive socio-environmental impacts can be integrated with the business and the generation of financial revenue. The positive impact can be generated on different links in the value chain: on the customer, in the organization itself, or in the supply chain.


In addition to modeling and creating strategies for the enterprises, Sense-Lab works by developing impact business plans and financial planning for different types of organizations, arrangements and networks, usually in a participatory and co-created with various stakeholders. 


These plans range from market analysis, marketing, operation planning, structure and team, development of financial scenarios, pricing, risk analysis, among other aspects that support decision-making for the development of a financially healthy impact business.  

Governance Development
and Organizational Structure

Sense-Lab supports organizations through participatory and dialogical processes to reflect on and have shared clarity about the combined and game rules that order relationships between their teams. This process generates a shared vision and greater cohesion among the members of the organization, works on the clarity of roles and responsibilities, identifies the different processes and levels of decision-making, distinguishing strategic, tactical and operational deliberations. It also seeks to generate mechanisms and foster internal culture for the dynamic updating of governance, as a natural process of evolution of organizations, making them more adaptive, agile and resilient. 


In many processes it is necessary to create mechanisms of transversal alignment between teams, programs or sectors, through committees, working groups or thematic articulators. According to the culture and call of the organization, concepts of autonomy, horizontality, self-management and organizational democracy are also worked, using concepts of dynamic governance, sociocracy or holacracy.   

Organizational Culture Development


From the Strategic Planning and Structure and Governance processes we conduct, we often identify an opportunity and need to look at the deepest patterns of behaviors and ways of acting of the members of the organization.  Through dialogical processes, we support organizations to become aware of how their members are accustomed to interacting, talking, aligning and organizing, and what are the assumptions and mental models that influence and sustain these patterns of behavior. It is necessary to understand how culture happens, so that from there it is possible to involve people in the culture that wants to be created in the organization, and from there transform it, finding new ways of acting, doing and relating, in order to achieve better results. 

Innovation Processes, Project
And Program Management

Sense-Lab develops innovation processes, project management and programs with different focuses. Implements participatory innovation processes, with dialogical and co-creative techniques, use of approaches such as design thinking, U theory and social innovation processes. It also works with project management using conventional methodologies oriented by deadlines, schedules, financial management and agile and adaptive resources or methods for implementing dynamic processes in extremely complex and uncertain environments.


Sense-Lab also plans and implements programs for civil society and company organizations.
